Obsidian, from Lava to Volcanic Glass

This lariat necklace is a gorgeous example of luxurious obsidian jewelry.

Since our Fantastic Fridays item of the week is made from obsidian, I wanted to explain some more about this interesting native Peruvian material. Obsidian is created when volcanic lava comes in contact with water. With a smooth, glossy texture and rich black color, this volcanic glass has been prized for centuries. Isn’t it fascinating to think that each piece of obsidian was once part of a glowing hot lava stream? The lava usually comes in contact with water in lakes or the ocean, which cools it quickly and forms the glass. Many people assume obsidian is a type of stone, but now you know the origin of this material is far more interesting. Aside from the Obsidian Pendant on special this week, we also have this gorgeous silver lariat necklace in stock.
