October is the time when we watch the leaves change from green to orange, yellow and red, and the month when we place pumpkins on our doorsteps. Orange is certainly the color for October, and we love how this vibrant hue gives any outfit a fresh fall look. Our friend Deirdre is modeling two of our favorite pieces of orange Handcrafted Jewelry from the Tikanchay Collection. Both the Handcrafted Earrings and necklace feature orange Spondylus shell, which is one of the most interesting natural materials found in South America. These particular pieces are carved from a much larger shell with hues that range from orange to red to purple. Therefore, the same shell can be used to produce several different pieces of jewelry that all look quite different. This reddish orange Spondylus Shell Dragonfly Pendant and matching Spondylus Shell Earrings are made with polished shells and .950 sterling silver, and are unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. The dragonfly is becoming a very popular design for all kinds of jewelry, but this sterling silver handcrafted pendant and earrings are made by expert artisans using the highest quality materials to create truly unique handcrafted designs.
The Mother of Pearl flower on this pendant is hand carved from a polished shell, and hangs from a .950 sterling silver finding. It is placed on a sterling silver handcrafted chain, and the result is a gorgeous piece of Artisan Jewelry that will stand the test of time. Not only is the flower style universal and timeless, but the quality of the piece will make it a favorite in your jewelry box for many years to come. This Mother of Pearl Flower Necklace is one of the newest styles added to our collection of Artisan Necklaces. We’re proud to work with the best artisans in Peru to bring our customers truly unique jewelry that makes them feel beautiful inside and out.
Mother of Pearl Jewelry has been a popular choice for quite some time. With the shell’s milky tone and lustrous shine, it’s not hard to see why. In Peru, Mother of Pearl is called Nacar. Peruvian Nacar shells are hand polished by talented artisans, and then set in sterling silver settings to create Artisan Jewelry designs like our Three Bolitas Mother of Pearl Pendant. We seek out the most talented artisans to find jewelry of the highest quality, especially those that use native stones, shells, and other materials to create jewelry that celebrates the diverse landscape of Peru.
Chrysocolla is said to be a healing and calming stone, and some say it can even attract love! But even if you don’t believe in the meanings that are attached to certain stones, you can appreciate the beauty of chrysocolla, also known as Peruvian turquoise. The chrysocolla that comes from Peru has a marbled look with hues ranging from aqua green to teal. And as you can see, it looks great when featured in an Artisan Necklace. This Peruvian Turquoise Pendant can be placed on a sterling silver handcrafted chain, or a soft black cord that contrasts the vibrant turquoise.
Here is a unique design from the new collection, resembling old fashioned looking glasses. The shine of the silver half spheres is so perfect that it creates a mirror effect, and the intricate design around them is a distinct artisan touch. These Sterling Silver Artisan Earrings measure 3/4″ wide and 1″ tall, making them substantial but not too large. They are a perfect choice when looking for Silver Dangle Earrings to add that polished look to an outfit. And like all Tikanchay designs, they are made with .950 sterling silver, meaning they have an unusually high silver content, even when compared with other sterling jewelry.
These new Sterling Silver Dangle Ring Earrings look great on our friend Deirdre, and they’re now available at Tikanchay.com. The cascading design bounces and twirls as you move, catching attention and compliments. The .950 sterling silver makes them stand out from the earrings you’ll find in most stores, but it’s an artisan’s attention to detail that makes them a work of art. The silversmiths we work with are masters in their craft, perfecting the art of jewelry making to create remarkably beautiful designs. Our selection of artisan earrings from Peru is growing, and we’ll continue to add new styles. Each design is available in limited quantities, so don’t wait to order.

We’re back from Peru again, with new ideas and new Peruvian jewelry designs. We’re still photographing new products and updating our site, and the overall new look will be ready within a couple of weeks. While in Peru, I was reminded of the importance of Huayruro seeds in Peruvian culture. Taxi drivers wear Huayruro bracelets as they drive through the crowded city of Lima, for protection. Just like the rosaries that hang from the rearview mirrors, Huayruro seeds are seen as a powerful way to ward off negative energy. In the more rural areas, many Peruvians keep their Huayruros in containers within their homes, and sometimes carry a few in their pockets for good luck. This tradition dates back for centuries, and is a reminder of the importance of history and culture in modern day Peru.
The dragonfly is a symbol of many things to many different people. The most common ones are renewal and positive energy. Like butterflies, dragonflies have been featured in many jewelry designs lately. This dragonfly pendant features mother of pearl, or nacar as they call it here in Peru. The shell is polished to perfection, giving it a pure, milky look. Surrounded with .950 sterling silver, the shell’s true beauty shines. It makes a unique jewelry gift for any woman who enjoys dragonflies and the beauty of nature. We also have this pendant in purple and red spondylus shell, and chrysocolla, or Peruvian turquoise. Each stone or shell has its own allure. We’ll be adding photos and product pages for the other pendants soon.
