A recent trip to the artisan markets of Peru had me pondering the question of how to share with you the ways that we distinguish ourselves here at Tikanchay. A tourist visiting these markets might at first glance conclude that our designs are ubiquitous, as the native materials we feature are, of course, on display all over the marketplace. And while part of our mission is to feature these beautiful materials and to support the very artisans displaying their wares, another part of our mission is to choose only the finest craftsmanship from the hundreds of artisans in the marketplace. Finding them requires more than just a keen eye. It also requires taking the time to wear these pieces, test them for our customers. You can’t imagine how many times a piece that appears to hang beautifully on a mannequin actually slips and slides on the neck of an active woman, making it unacceptable for our collection. Clasps and settings are considered and tested and return visits are made to gently tweak designs. We forge relationships with artisans and that is one of the reasons we can confidently guarantee the quality of the silver jewelry in the Tikanchay collection.
